Pre-Nursery: 1-3 years old

This is a place for your child to enjoy free play, singing sessions and structured play, promoting their social skills and satisfying their inquisitive minds. Every day is a new experience: sand, water, collages, building, baking, puzzles and the home corner are just a few of the activities your child will enjoy. Your child will start to learn all round development skills such as primary colors, shapes and counting. Circle time brings children together so that we can develop their auditory listening and social skills. These types of rituals are very important to build a sense of rhythm and familiarity, which encourages social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. We use British Sign Language as children at this age are able to associate a movement of their hands and/or arms with a need or want. This gives them a sense of control of their environment and a sense of well being as they begin to communicate.

Nursery: 3 - 4 years old

Our teachers make children feel successful and very special and they are treated as respected individuals. An increased interest in joint play such as make-believe, construction and games helps children to learn the important social skills of sharing and cooperating. Specialized areas for learning are introduced so children may make choices and play independently as they learn. Children still need the comfort and security of special people. Close, warm relationships with teachers form the basis for much learning, such as encouraging children to make healthy choices in food and exercise.

Reception: 4-5 years old

Reception rooms offer stimulating, exciting activities to stretch skills and imagination and will give your child a head start for when they begin school. These are communication, language and literacy, mathematical development, knowledge & understanding of the world, creative & physical development as well as personal, social and emotional development. This is an environment in which children will flourish and become more confident and independent with each day, they will be able to express ideas, thoughts, and feelings in front of a group during Carpet Time. They will start to write and read simple words as they will start to learn Jolly Phonics.

Little Learners British Nursery Curriculum

At Little Learners, English is spoken throughout the day and we follow the British Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. The EYFS promotes effective practice through each of the six areas of learning to support children through various stages of maturity and development. Our aim is to make learning a fun and challenging experience and recognize the importance of play. They enable children to develop key skills such as speaking, listening, learning to work with others or independently and early literacy and numeracy.

There are six areas of learning and development which we use when we are observing, assessing and planning for your child's individual needs. These are reflected in your child's learning journey and personalized planning.

These areas of learning and development enable us to constantly challenge your child helping them to develop and succeed.

The 6 areas of learning

Personal, Social and Emotional (PSED): this is about how confident the children are, how they make friends, share, and take turns and how they manage their feelings and behavior.

Physical development: how your child moves and uses gross and fine motor skills, can manage self-care independently and learns about healthy living.

Communication, Language and Literacy: how your child listens and pays attention, understands what is being said, communicates with others and develops speech and vocabulary. How your child enjoys books and reading, likes to mark make, learns to write and starts to explore letters and phonics.

Mathematics: how your child learns about counting, numbers explores measures, capacities, space, shapes, and opposites, recognizes the passing of time.

Understanding the World: how your child finds out about nature and the world around them, talks about people and their local community and learns about differences and similarities, about special, cultural and religious events in their lives and others.

Art and Design: how your children enjoy being creative, use color to express themselves, sing, dance and make music. They learn how to use resources in different ways, they use a variety of tools and materials to explore, and with adult support they learn techniques so that they can be used as an effective means of expression.

Each of the six areas of learning are seen by Little Learners' teachers as being equally important with each area being connected to each other and underpinned by all of the principles in the EYFS.

Little Learners British Nursery

Little Learners is a new British Nursery which will open its doors on September 2013. We put it down to simple things such as the quality of our staff, dedication, understanding and sheer passion for what we do. The spacious building and grounds allow for facilities to be separate enough to concentrate on key areas, but part of one unit to ensure a continual care and development for your children.

Our Beliefs
We believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfill his / hers full potential.

We believe that a safe, secure and happy childhood is important, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their talents and abilities as they grow up. Children have opportunities to experience and develop in all the areas, through a balance of child initiated and adult led activities.

We believe that children are only this special age once and we feel it is important not to rush childhood. Our ethos ‘Learning through play’ is designed to nurture each child's talents, support weaknesses and establish the path to formalized learning.

We believe your child is completely unique. We want to get to know you and your child really well so that your child feels secure and happy and you feel confident and relaxed leaving him / her in our nursery.

We believe that ‘teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning’. Our team consists of experienced teachers in working with children using the British curriculum.

Our Aims
We want the children to be sociable and to have high self-esteem, to enjoy books and stories, to learn about numbers and how to solve problems, to find out about the world and environment around them.

  • To teach children to learn through play. This method encourages the children to develop skills and to learn by examples whilst playing, thus making the learning process both fun and enjoyable. We believe in giving your child the best possible opportunity to progress and develop their skills.
  • To form a strong relationships with parents and children. Parents can be confident that their child is seen as an individual: each child has their own key person to help understand their needs and build a special relationship with them.
  • To create indoor and outdoor environments which are age appropriate, well maintained, and accessible for all the children. They give opportunities for a wide range of planned and free play activities where the children can explore a safe, secure and challenging environment.

British Curriculum
At Little Learners we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS). The overarching aim of the EYFS is to help young children to achieve the five 'Every Child Matters' outcomes: feel safe, adopt healthy lifestyles, achieve and enjoy, make a positive contribution and develop skills for the future.

It focuses on four themes:
A Unique Child - Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive Relationships - Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
Enabling Environments - The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.
Learning and Development - Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.

At Little Learners, we know that choosing a nursery is one of the most important decisions that you make, so we recommend that you do not make this decision lightly.
